Effective Ways of Teaching Kids Entrepreneurship


Entrepreneurship should be taught to kids in ways that they can enjoy and benefit maximally from. Knowing that they have such short attention spans and like to play, creative methods must be employed when teaching them entrepreneurship.


1. Rehashing Success Stories

There are many successful entrepreneurs in the world today with varying success stories. Some are very inspiring as they feature their humble beginnings, rocky milestones, and happy endings. They all have the challenges they passed through, the hurdles they overcame, and how they were eventually able to break through. Sharing such exemplary histories with kids using child-friendly terms and vocabulary opens them up to the possibility of becoming just like those successful entrepreneurs. Drawing from such real-life lessons and breaking them down for the kids to understand can become a major source of motivation for those leaders of tomorrow. 


2. Sharing Fictional Stories

It is common knowledge that children love fun and interesting stories especially when they are acted out or portrayed with sharp colors and animated characters.  The ability to craft such engaging stories which the kids can relate to and keep in mind should be put to good use when teaching entrepreneurship. Bringing in circumstances and characters with which the children are conversant and weaving them into memorable stories will go a long way in helping kids grasp the concept of entrepreneurship.


3. Having Interactive Periods

Allowing the kids to express themselves, ask questions, and make contributions will be very effective in making entrepreneurship a part of their lives. They can come up with more examples and be allowed to exercise their minds in relation to entrepreneurial topics. As they keep thinking about the concept, talking about it, and sharing it with others, they become accustomed to the whole idea and this forms a strong entrepreneurship foundation for them.


4. Organizing Practical Sessions

The popular saying: ‘“Practice makes perfect.” can be applied even from a tender age. The children should be engaged in practicing the entrepreneurial topics they are taught. They can start practicing among themselves, among other schoolmates, and in whatever possible situation. They should be involved in thinking of solutions to problems and figuring out ways to do things better. They can start with shopping games and move on to trade shows or exhibitions organized by the instructors or teachers. Practicing is very important as it makes the subject a part of the child’s life.
