1. Population Growth
The U.N. estimates that Africa's population is expanding at a rate of 2.5% annually, which is more than three times the average rate for the world. The present population is also predicted to double in size by 2050 meanwhile resources are already being overstretched. These people need to be catered to at different stages. They have basic needs of food, water, clothing, and shelter. They also need health care, education, and many other things. These services need to be available and provided in the best way possible.
Having such services and facilities provided by more companies and businesses will reduce the pressure that is being mounted on the already existing structures. Businesses will need to increase and expand to suit the needs of a large population and that of the future. There is no better way to plan for the future than to start training the leaders of tomorrow into becoming solution providers and successful entrepreneurs in the various industries. Such people can strategize and come up with long-lasting and efficient plans to manage the needs of the large population.
2. High Unemployment Rate
A median age of 19.7 years makes Africa the continent with the youngest population in the world. Yet only one-third of the 420 million young people were unemployed as of 2015 and only 3 million jobs were available for the 10 to 15 million young people that enter the labor market yearly. Some fields have too many qualified persons and experience stiff competition for jobs. It becomes a case of “battle for the strong” and many are left behind having wasted time and resources. Such people are either unemployed or underemployed. Some other people lack the right skill set and so remain unemployed while the fields in need of such skills are understaffed.
Either way, no one wants to be among the unemployed statistics and the next generation should not be allowed to go through that. Getting entrepreneurial training early gives the young ones an advantage. They become innovative and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to start their own businesses and become employers of labor. They become job creators instead of job seekers and become integral in national development.
3. Economic Instability
In recent times, Africa has experienced a lot of economic disruptions. In 2021, almost 30 million Africans were reduced to abject poverty as a result of the pandemic. Inflation has hit many countries and prices of goods and services have been affected. The future is unpredictable and the lives of many are at stake.
The problem with this is that wages and salaries are not increasing with the cost of living. The minimum wage is insufficient to do battle with the constant economic crisis. Companies are downsizing and everyone is trying to do what they can to survive. Some businesses are still making a lot of money due to their innovative and unique solutions and that is what entrepreneurial training is about. People are developing their talents and using them to make ends meet despite the economy. This should be a strong enough motivation to encourage early learning.
4. Evolution Of Business Models
An effective strategy for turning a profit is a business model. Over centuries, business models have changed and are still changing. Change is constant and that theory has been proven constantly. Through the Internet and social media, businesses can now engage with customers in more meaningful ways than ever before. Social media has now become effective in reaching millions of people all over the world. Brand positioning strategies are expanding in scope and becoming more specialized.
Technology has made a lot of things easier and more efficient. For many industries, the onset of COVID-19 made the idea of working remotely a reality. A lot of activities can now be carried out from the comfort of one’s home and with the click of simple buttons. This is a great opportunity to capitalize on and maximize. With the right training, people can take things many more steps further. They can be taught from a young age to acquire skills that will add value to the society and world at large. They can harness their talents and channel their God-given resources towards providing solutions at every turn.
5. Limited Government Resources
Government jobs receive a large number of applications and those kinds of positions come with attached benefits like stability, pension, gratuity, etc. However, government resources are limited. The government cannot keep up with the rapidly growing population, especially in Africa.
Now there are many more private companies and institutions that provide job opportunities and more are still being created. These businesses were started by individuals or groups of individuals who had those ideas that eventually made a whole lot of difference. These entrepreneurs are the solution providers and wealth controllers of our time. Your child can replicate the same in the future.
Conclusion
There is need to start early to teach children entrepreneurship in schools. To this effect, schools can adopt courses that train kids to become nation-builders in the future and parents can enroll their children in entrepreneurial academies like BMI Finishing School.
